Sometimes "No" Is the Best Answer

One of the things I love most about real estate is helping people find the right home—not just a home.

This week I had scheduled a showing for a foreclosure property. Before we could even walk through the front door, the home went under contract. At first, I was disappointed for my buyer. Like every REALTOR®, I want my clients to have every opportunity to find the perfect place.

But as I thought about it, I felt an unexpected sense of relief.

Foreclosures can sometimes be wonderful opportunities, but they also come with risks. Many banks sell these properties "as is," meaning they often won't make repairs, even if significant issues are discovered during inspections. While some buyers are prepared for that challenge, others may find themselves facing unexpected expenses after closing.

My responsibility has never been to simply help someone buy a house. My responsibility is to help them make a wise decision for their future.

Sometimes the best homes are the ones you purchase.
